Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. owns Canadian Club® Canadian Whisky and Jim Beam® bourbon. These brands sponsor Motorsports racing in the IndyCar and NASCAR leagues. Racing requires skill, accuracy, good judgment, split-second responsiveness and razor-sharp reactions. No wonder our drivers are so committed to helping us get out the message about responsible consumption. We figure they have a heck of a lot of credibility. Who better to talk about being responsible than a professional driver? In the past year, we were fortunate that two of our drivers helped us to raise awareness about responsible consumption in several communities throughout the U.S. Here are some highlights:
Survey data from The Century Council, a leading not-for-profit organization dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking shows that 65% of youth who drink illegally, obtain alcohol from their family and friends.
Throughout 2006, Canadian Club Canadian Whisky and Beam Global Spirits & Wine, sponsored a Century Council public awareness campaign designed to discourage adults from providing alcohol to minors. Millions of tip-cards designed to educate parents about how to talk to their kids about underage drinking were distributed to liquor stores throughout the states.
Canadian Club partnered with The Michael Andretti Foundation and The Century Council to raise attention to the 65% campaign in conjunction with local organizations and elected officials around the United States including Milwaukee, Wis., Detroit, Mich., Cincinnati, Ohio and Chicago, Ill.
Also in 2006, Beam Global Spirits & Wine and Jim Beam® bourbon, The Official Spirit of Racing™, worked with Robby Gordon Motorsports (RGM) to provide a Century Council education program for university students. Throughout 2006, Robby Gordon Motorsports (RGM) donated thousands of dollars to colleges and universities across the country to support The Century Council's Alcohol 101 Plus™ program which is designed to educate students on the harm associated with the misuse of alcohol on college campuses.
